Port Burwell
This was another random spot I picked on the map! It was about a 55-minute drive from London, Ontario, and turned out to be a pleasant experience. When I take these kinds of spontaneous trips, I don’t expect much because I just choose places without checking online reviews. And honestly, that’s what makes the journey special for me. You never know what you’ll find or see. Even if you don’t come across anything extraordinary, the thrill of venturing into the unknown is its own reward—it’s a way to truly feel alive.
This time, I stumbled upon a submarine museum! I visited on a Sunday, but unfortunately, the museum was closed. They had recently reopened for winter, and I found out through their website that the submarine isn’t heated, so if you visit in winter, make sure to dress warmly. Also, keep in mind that it can close suddenly due to heavy winter storms. You can find all the details here: HMCS Ojibwa Submarine Tours. From my perspective, summer might be the perfect time to visit. Still, discovering it on this random journey felt rewarding, and now I have a goal for my next trip! If I do go back, I’ll write about it on my blog and try to cover everything in detail for anyone who’s too far away to visit.
After spending some time wandering around, I went to Port Burwell East Side Beach. It was absolutely beautiful. Even though it was a colder day, I stood there for a while, watching the waves roll in and out. Most of my random journeys end up being near water, probably because I feel such a strong connection to it. There’s something incredibly calming about sitting by the shore and listening to the sound of the waves.
In fact, I recorded the sound of the waves from this beach, and sometimes I listen to it at night while I fall asleep. It makes me feel like I’m lying right beside the ocean. It’s so peaceful. Speaking of sleep, I’ve been trying to improve my sleep schedule—but here I am, writing this at midnight!
Through this post, I want to inspire you to go on unplanned journeys from time to time. There’s something magical about not having expectations. Unlike planned trips, where expectations can sometimes overshadow the experience, these random adventures leave room for surprises—good or bad. And honestly, the unexpected is what makes life more exciting!
I think I’ll wrap it up here for now. Next time, I’ll share the story of how I caught a glimpse of the Atlas Comet, which won’t be visible again for another 80,000 years. Until then, take care, my readers! Go on a random journey without a set destination—it’s not as strange as it sounds. Just pick a spot that feels worth exploring, don’t overthink it, and go. You might be surprised by what you discover.
