A Quick Escape from Downtown London
Located just a short 15-minute drive from downtown London, Ontario, Springbank Park offers an easy escape into nature. As one of the largest urban parks in the city, it stretches along the picturesque Thames River, providing a serene environment that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I have provided some of the things we can do in Springbank Park. Basically, you could spend around 2–4 hours in Springbank Park (considering you are going to Storybook Gardens). But it depends on why you are visiting Springbank Park (is it for an afternoon walk? Then 1 to 2 hours, or with children for the amusement park? I will talk about Storybook Gardens in later paragraphs as well).
A Runner’s Paradise
I’ve visited Springbank Park a couple of times, often trading my usual gym routine for a refreshing run amidst the park’s green space. The well-maintained trails are perfect for running, offering a mix of shaded paths and open areas that make every run a new adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting, the park’s trails cater to all fitness levels. I have run a lot here with my Tozo earphones in my early days, and those days are still fresh in my mind. They give me energy whenever I feel down.
Family Fun at Storybook Gardens
Other than winter activities, Springbank Park is an all-season park, meaning it offers lots of things in other seasons as well. One of the park’s highlights is Storybook Gardens, a beloved amusement park and playground for children that offers fun for the whole family. With its whimsical theme based on classic children’s stories, it’s a delightful spot for kids and adults alike. From rides and play areas to seasonal events, Storybook Gardens adds an extra layer of joy to any visit to Springbank Park.
Winter Wonderland
While I have some wonderful memories of the park in winter, with the snow-covered trees creating a magical landscape, I’m excited to share my summer pictures soon, both here and on our Instagram page. The transformation from a winter wonderland to a vibrant summer haven is truly spectacular, and each season brings its own unique charm to the park. As for winter skating, it can be done in Storybook Gardens. I found on the website that it has a 50-metre skate trail where you can skate around the park.
Springbank Park Ticket Prices (Winter Skating)
For winter skating trail admission, the price for adults is $5, for children ages 17 and under it’s only $4, and children under 24 months can enter for free! Skate rental is available for $7 per person, but they don’t rent helmets at the time of my writing, though helmets are required for children 5 and under. So make sure you bring your own helmets. You can register for skate trail admission on the website. There is also drop-in availability, but it depends on a first-come, first-served basis. If the park is closed due to bad weather, there is also a refund policy.
Tranquil Walks with Friends
Some of my best memories at Springbank Park are the long walks I’ve taken with friends. We would spend hours strolling along the river, enjoying the peaceful ambiance and engaging in deep conversations about life and everything in between—for example, how the stock market is doing or what’s going on with crypto, lol. It’s the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature and loved ones.
Scenic Picnic Spots and Playgrounds
Springbank Park is dotted with numerous picnic areas and playgrounds, making it an ideal destination for family outings. Pack a lunch, spread out a blanket, and enjoy a leisurely picnic while the kids burn off energy on the playgrounds. The park’s well-kept gardens and scenic views of the Thames River provide a picturesque backdrop for any gathering. It’s well known for picnics. I have seen many people in the summertime enjoying their picnic lunch.
Capturing Memories
As someone who enjoys photography, I’ve captured countless moments at Springbank Park. The changing seasons offer endless opportunities for stunning photos, from vibrant fall foliage to blossoming spring flowers. I’ll be sharing some of these summer photos soon, so keep an eye out for them here or on our Instagram page.
A Peaceful Retreat
Springbank Park is more than just a park; it’s a sanctuary where you can find peace and rejuvenation. Whether you’re visiting for a run, winter skating at Storybook Gardens, a picnic, or simply to soak in the beauty of nature, the park offers a tranquil escape from the everyday grind. Every visit reminds me of the simple joys of life and the importance of taking time to connect with nature.
I hope my experiences inspire you to visit Springbank Park and create your own memorable moments in this beautiful urban oasis. Don’t forget to follow our Instagram page for more pics and stories of other visited places.
